From combat systems to Devil Fruits—how we built every core system from scratch and what's next for our flagship pirate RPG.

Four Blues is our most ambitious project—an anime-inspired open world pirate RPG built from the ground up. No templates. No shortcuts. Every system custom-engineered.
Here's where we are, and where we're going.
Over months of intense development, we've shipped the core pillars that make Four Blues what it is:
The foundation of any action RPG. We rebuilt our combat from scratch multiple times until it felt right—responsive, skill-based, and satisfying. The current system supports:
The signature power system. Players can discover and consume Devil Fruits that fundamentally change their abilities. Each fruit is fully animated with unique VFX and gameplay implications.
The advanced combat modifier system. Observation Haki, Armament Haki—implemented with visual tells and meaningful gameplay impact.
You can't have a pirate game without naval exploration. Full boat systems including:
Sounds simple. It's not. Underwater exploration with proper physics, stamina management, and depth mechanics that interact with Devil Fruit users (who sink like stones).
Multiple fully-built islands with distinct biomes, NPCs, enemies, and secrets to discover. The world is taking shape.
Complete interface redesign for clarity and style. Inventory, stats, quests, dialogue—all rebuilt with a consistent visual language.
Custom audio across the board. Combat impacts, ambient soundscapes, UI feedback, and music that sets the tone.
Beyond the base system, specialized fighting styles that players can learn and master—each with unique combos and abilities.
The core systems are in. Now we're building on top of them:
Once the above is complete, we open the doors to our community testers. This is where real feedback shapes the final product.
Initial prototyping and concept development kicks off with core combat system work.
Combat systems finalized after multiple reworks. Devil Fruits, Haki, boats, swimming, and islands built.
Fully acquired by Melo Interactive. UI overhaul, sound design, and new combat styles added.
Building progression systems, events, bosses, and cutscenes. Preparing for closed testing.
Opening to community testers for feedback and refinement.
After expanding Devil Fruits, adding content, and QA passes—full public launch.
The path to public release:
We could have shipped something faster. Taken shortcuts. Used templates.
We didn't.
Four Blues is built to last. Every system we've created is designed to scale—to support years of content updates without technical debt crushing us. The time we've invested now pays dividends forever.
34,000+ Discord members are already invested in this journey. They've watched us build, provided feedback, and shaped what Four Blues is becoming.
This isn't just our game. It's theirs too.
